How to Choose a Wedding Photographer in Delhi NCR: A No-Nonsense Guide

We wrote a separate piece on the specific questions to ask before signing — this one is about the broader framework for comparing studios in the first place, because most couples start by comparing portfolios, which is the least useful signal available.

Why portfolios are a weak signal

Every studio shows its best forty frames from four hundred weddings. A beautiful portfolio tells you a studio is capable of beautiful work under ideal conditions — it tells you nothing about consistency, about how they handle a rushed baraat, or whether the person who shot those forty frames is even still with the studio.

Ask for a full, unedited gallery from a recent wedding

Not the highlight reel — the complete delivered set from a single wedding, ideally similar in scale to yours. This tells you what consistency actually looks like across four hundred real frames shot in real conditions, not the twenty best ones cherry-picked for a website.

Understand who's actually shooting your wedding

Larger studios often send different crews to different weddings on the same weekend. Ask directly: is the person I'm meeting now the person who will be there on my wedding day, and if not, can I meet whoever is? A studio that can't answer this clearly is a studio still figuring out its own staffing on your date.

Compare quotes on structure, not just total

Two quotes at ₹2,00,000 can mean very different things — one might include a cinematic film and drone coverage, the other might not. Ask for an itemised breakdown from every studio you're seriously considering, and compare line by line rather than bottom-line numbers. See our companion piece on what wedding photography actually costs for what each line typically runs.

Red flags worth taking seriously

  • Vague or verbal-only delivery timelines, with nothing written into the contract
  • No named backup photographer in case the lead is unavailable
  • Reluctance to show a full, unedited gallery on request
  • Pressure to book immediately without time to compare against another studio
  • A quote with no advance payment schedule, or one demanding full payment upfront

What we'd want a couple to walk away with

Meet the actual photographer, see a complete gallery, get everything in writing, and choose the studio whose documentary style matches how your family actually behaves at a wedding — loud and chaotic, or measured and formal. Style fit matters more than any single portfolio image.
